8 meditation tips for the very begginer 🌹
Everybody can meditate. If you have always wanted to meditate but you find it hard for you to focus, or straight up uncomfortable, here are some tips if you would like to get started.
1.- You DON’T NEED to sit a certain way. You don’t need to be in a lotus position, or do anything with your hands if you dont want to. My yoga instructor had us lay down to meditate at the beginning. Just get comfortable, if crossing your legs cuts your circulation when you stay like that for a long time (as it happens to me), THERE’S NO NEED TO DO IT.
2.- Maybe take five or six deep breaths at the begining, BUT THAT’S IT. For me one of the beauties of meditation is to just observe myself existing. If you’re focused on following a rythm of breath someone’s giving you, you might even fell light headed if you’re not used to it. Just let your breath do what it needs. For me, if I’m very concentrated, my breath is so faint it seems like I’ve stopped breathing, so don’t worry about deep breath.
3.- DON’T TRUST JUST ANY YOUTUBE GUIDED MEDITATION VIDEO. Not all of them are good. Watch a little bit of it before using it. I highly recommend you instead use either meditation music (which is generally good), or find one with alpha waves. Those are great.
4.- LET YOUSELF GO. Don’t try and be in total control all the time. Remember, its a trip to the quiet side of the mind. I find when I relinquish control some pretty wacky awesome things happen.
5.- Don’t force images to pop in your head, and don’t force them to go. If you wander out of focus, bring your attention back gently.
6.- If you’re into exploring you subconscious, which requires practice, I would keep a notepad to write down immediatly as you come back what you saw, felt or expereinced.
7.- Aromatherapy. I’ve come to associate certain smells with the stillness of meditation because I use them during sessions. You can use them in other scenarios and itll trigger the same feeling of calm. I use vanilla incense :)
8.- If you still feel like this is a little challenging (ADD/ADHD babies I got you) there’s a great app called The Meditation Game that’s great if you have trouble focusing for long periods of time. I use it quite a bit and it’s so useful if you have to squeeze meditation time at the weirdest hours or places.
Happy meditating everyone! 💚
